If you have heavy items that you need to store, wire closet shelving may not be the best option for you. Tracks for the shelving are screwed into the walls. The shelving will hold up, if you are careful about how much weight you place on the shelves. If you decide to store very heavy items on the shelves or hang an unusually large number of items on the racks, you may find that your shelving unit is not as sturdy as you thought it was. The weight may cause the screws for the tracks to pull out of the walls, which leaves large holes in the wall. Once this happens, it is hard to reinstall the unit. Heavy items are best stored on wooden or metal shelving units that are free-standing and not attached to a wall.
